out at krueger’s tavern

I’ve been sandbagging you guys.

I checked out Krueger’s Tavern over a month ago and quite frankly have been thinking about it ever since. Kenny and I popped in over the busy Fourth of July weekend, parked it at the bar, and tried a good spread of appetizers, sammies, and sides. Not a single thing disappointed.

Kruger's beer cheeseWe started with the beer cheese, which was ridiculous. First, have you ever had a bad batch of beer cheese? Of course not and Krueger’s version was no exception. Served like fondue, with thick pieces of baguette and rye bread, it was polished off with not a lot of talking in between. So killer.

Kruger's chicken sandwichMy main lunch course was the roast chicken club (chicken breast, haricot vert, roma tomato, bacon, avocado, and lettuce). It was an awesomely indulgent hot club sandwich that was filling without leaving me feeling overly stuffed. However the real treat was the garlic aioli spread to add on. That, my friends, was delish.

Kruger's cubanKenny went with the cuban (braised pork shoulder, ham, gruyere cheese, homemade pickles, dijon mustard, black bean puree, cuban roll) which was right up his alley. With all that goes into that sandwich, it is hard not to get overwhelmed, but I can attest to really how awesome it is. Everything is balanced and flavorful and hearty. It is definitely a no-nonsense sandwich.

Kruger's mashed potatosWe decided to share the colcannon (mashed potatoes, wilted kale, Guinness braised onions) as our side, which really rounded out our big German lunch. It, like the rest, was rich without being heavy. It was deeply flavorful and fun to munch on between bites of delicious sandwiches. I would definitely order it again.

Now Krueger’s is actually known for their sausages, which we obviously did not order. Sausages are not really my thing, but I do want to go back to try with friends. Anyone out there have one to suggest? Do please let me know because Krueger’s is a spot that I look forward to returning to. The inner decor is rustic and industrial, and they have the rooftop spot on Vine that cannot be beat, so return trips are definitely in order.
