dining room reveal

Coming at you this week with a few room reveal posts because I’ve got friends in low places who have had some serious hands in helping us bring it all to life.

A long time friend of mine, Chris Berberich, started Michael Allan Designs, a custom furniture and design company, making one-of-a-kind pieces from recycled and repurposed materials. For us, Chris made this amazing circular dinner table and open shelving, all from 100-year-old reclaimed wood he salvaged from a tear down house in his neighborhood. Both pieces have such character and they really do nail the vision I was going for in this room, which is another aspect to Chris’s ability. Chris calls himself “the DIY guy for the person who can’t DIY.” He wants you to have a hand in the design, he wants you to bring him your ideas and/or pictures, and then he wants to make it for you. Kenny and I were both back and forth with him in regards to this table, sharing what we liked about the boards, the stain, the base, the base color, everything, and then same with the shelves. I found similar brackets on Etsy and asked what he could do, and within minutes, he sent me back pictures of the very ones he made and now they’re hanging on our wall. Totally awesome.

This was really truly great for us, not only because Chris is such a good friend to both Kenny and me, but because I love having these handcrafted pieces craft the story that is becoming this home.

But this is not where the talented friendships end. Grainwell also helped bring this room’s vision to life, with the natural wood planter and framed wood city scape (which was a housewarming gift from one of Kenny’s coworkers). I love how each rounds out the layered look and color scheme of this room, while also being cool and unique pieces on their own.

Special shoutout to this air plant planter because I just think it’s the coolest. So simple but so sharp.

I have a bit more to show off that exemplifies what Chris and Michael Allan Designs are capable of, but I’ll be bringing that all to you tomorrow. In the meantime, know that if you are liking what you are seeing, definitely reach out to Chris via Instagram for the custom work, and check out the product links below for some of the rest…
