real new year’s day

zara top and ray banMy new year officially begins today.  Yesterday was reserved to laying on the couch watching reruns, not cleaning up the house, and eating one last über-indulgent supper (that meant chicken tikka masala, spice level two, extra garlic naan).  Today is now the day to get stuff done.

But first, there are a couple of things I need to talk about in regards to this NYE outfit: jackets and layering statement necklaces.  Currently, both are my most favorite things.  I feel like for all the big plans I’ve had this holiday season, I’ve wanted nothing more than to wear my favorite Madewell ponte pants and a blazer.  My gal Sally has actually hooked me up twice now with blazers.  My favorite one was a white H&M number with silk lapels and I literally tried to buy it off of her (Sal – offer still stands).  It was awesome.

This jacket is also borrowed.  Borrowed is a loose term because my girl Julia accidentally left it at my house.  Finders keepers and blogger no weepers.  I asked for permission, and of course she didn’t mind, but girlfriends beware, if it is left behind, it is totally fair game.

As for layering statement necklaces, go for it.  This is a complete three sixty for me because I used to never wear jewelry.  Like ever.  Didn’t own squat.  Now my collection is growing and I want to wear everything at once.  But it just feels so good to have so much going on when you are simply wearing black and white.  I seriously love it.
