Kenny Holocher loves three things in life – friendship, bicycles, and day drinking. So for his thirtieth birthday party celebration, I made sure to combine them all.
The plan ultimately ended up being pretty simple – get his friends together, have everyone rent a Red Bike, meet at The Banks, and then roll through the city, stopping at fun establishments along the way. I cannot tell you enough how much fun this ended up being.
For one, the bikes are hilarious. They’re sturdy little cruise ships that make for really enjoyable joyrides. Most are equipped with two baskets, one on the front and the back (or one big basket in the front), as well as locks that allow for them to be securely locked up for when heading into places. They’re to be ridden on the streets with traffic, so watching our fleet roll through downtown was easily one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Furthermore, what makes this whole idea work is that the bikes can be picked up and dropped off at any station. We got our bikes from Sawyer Point and returned them to Washington Park. Therefore, there’s ultimately no baggage.
But again, it was so fun and quite frankly, a great idea! Being outside and traveling from The Banks to OTR via bikes was like making the most of a great day. We started at Yard House, then went to The Blind Pig (which is awesome…will need to go back for a post…), then to Taft’s Ale House, finally ending at 16 Bit Bar. And the bikes made the bouncing around doable and easy. It was such a blast and I cannot wait to get out there and do it again. Too fun, too funny, such a fun fun time.
