out in columbia tusculum + giveaway

April 14, 2017

Recently I’ve had quite a few opportunities to write about what to do around town. Some of those things will be coming later (so please stay tuned!) and some of those things have been for City Beat (which if you are unaware, I write reviews and features for their food + drink section).

Furthermore, I was just recently approached to write about the great things to do in my neighborhood and in the spirit of writing about all things cool and local, I totally agreed. I sincerely love my Columbia Tusculum neighborhood. There are some seriously great established establishments and there is some seriously great Ohio real estate for sale that investors should have their eyes on in this newly growing community entertainment district. I personally look forward to the day that Eastern Avenue is a hustling and bustling strip full of shops, bars, restaurants, and more.

So whether you are familiar with this little eastside neck of the woods, or it is something new you’ve been meaning to check out, take my leads and consider any of the following this weekend. And also know this is totally worth your while as I am giving away a $25 gift card to my favorite spot. Would love for your first round to be on me so make sure to read until the end!

First up, Pearl’s. It is THE neighborhood bar and it never gets old. It is not the largest space, but it has a patio that all but makes up for it. Now that the weather is happy again, there’s no reason not to make a point to park it at Pearl’s for a few happy hour rounds.

Then there’s Blank Slate. Even though I am on a beer drinking hiatus, I can admit this is the beer I miss. Of all the local breweries in this serious beer loving town, I think Blank Slate is special. Kenny grabs growlers all the time and while he might be super inclined due to proximity, I know he’d also admit it is because of their quality.

Another brewery competitor is Streetside Brewery. This one has some fun ones (with some seriously striking colors) and their open garage space makes hanging out comfortable and fun. Harry’s also a fan because they let kids chalk right all over the concrete floor.

Now if you are just the food type there are the two anchoring bookends that need no introduction. One is Terry’s Turf Club and the other is Eli’s BBQ. I am going to be presumptuous here and assume you are all well aware of what these two offer, and all I needed to do was mention their names to ignite a craving that you know you must satisfy.

Furthermore, here are our almost once-a-week takeout go-to options – Allyn’s, Green Dog Cafe, Taglio, and Buz. I think in just the last two weeks, our family has had all four.

So clearly, there is plenty to eat and plenty to drink, plenty of places to visit and plenty of places to hang. We have and we will continue to frequent these spots as we ride out our lives in our cozy little home her in this hood. I am more than happy to share my love with you all, and speaking of sharing the love…

How about taking a chance at $25 dollars to Pearl’s?! Simply comment on this post with either what you love about the Columbia Tusculum area, or what you know you need to try out, and you’re in! I now look forward to hearing what you have to say…good luck!

I lived on Tusculum for 10 years, before all of the development (except Allyns). I love how much the neighborhood has bloomed, and since I didn’t move too far, love coming back frequently. I love all the places you mentioned, adding Bad Tom’s to the list.

I LOVE Taglio. I probably stop by at least once a week – running in to grab a quick slice after a Junior League meeting or ordering to our table at Pearls! Columbia Tusculum is one of my favorite parts of town!

I just made it a point to visit there last week to check out Streetside Brewery and POP Bar. I enjoyed Streetside but now I have to go back to check out Blank Slate because I love their beer & Pearl’s to enjoy the patio. <3

I live in CT about a half mile from Pearl’s and have yet to go! It’s always so crazy packed, but the patio looks awesome. I’ve heard many good things. I moved from downtown out to CT a couple years ago and what a fantastic decision that was with all the great little businesses moving in recently — Taglio, POP, Streetside, Manitou Candle, Little E Trends, and Cincy360. Wonderful area that can only continue to get better!

I have tried various Yoga/Pilates places and Modo Yoga stands out from the rest. The staff and students never fail to put me in a good mood and I can always be assured I will feel better walking out of those doors than when I walked in.

Green dog cafe has great brunch and it’s a nice place to go to where I won’t have to wait an hour to sit down. Pearl’s patio is my local favorite to sit on the patio with drinks and a puppy. :)

Love walking to the bar at Precinct for a Freddy, Pearl’s for a post-dinner cocktail, and Tostado’s for a little song-sesh. May or may not have accomplished all three last night…
