The Mercer, which just opened on November 5th, is definitely upping the ante when it comes to serious dining on Vine Street. It has the uptown vibe that Boca and Via Vite give off, with the downtown cool that Abigail Street and Salazar boast, which is a perfect combination in that neck of the woods.
Kenny and I were lucky to slide into the only two empty chairs at the bar last Friday since, to no surprise, the dining room was completely booked for the night. But it was perfect because we got to be around the energy of the bar with full menu service. And I don’t know if we were super hungry or there was that many enticing options, but we had to scale back our final order because our mouths were watering at too many good options.
We ultimately settled with an olive, veggie, almond spread (with a side of french fries) for an appetizer off the bar menu. Then for dinner, Kenny went with the short rib and I the pork belly risotto (with truffle…shocking). Every last bite was awesome. Between our two main dishes, I might actually give it to Kenny’s, which is not generally my taste, but it was awesome. So warm and meaty and hearty, it was perfect on that cold windy night. And my risotto was rich and surprising and filling. I couldn’t finish it that evening but can attest to the next day leftovers. Just. as. good.
The Mercer is dimly lit and classy and mature and definitely a higher end treat. I’m so glad I can scratch it off my list and I’d recommend it ten times over.
