Caught the final performance of Newsies at the Aronoff with my mom and sister on Sunday and it was a total treat.
While the story itself was a simple and sweet one, all the praise should go to the dancing. That’s what it was all about for me. And call me a sexist or a genderist or an stereotypist, but much of me was swept up and impressed by the fact that the cast was all boys. I knew that would roughly be the case because I had a basic understanding of the plot, but I guess I didn’t realize that it wasn’t going to be just mostly boys, but nearly all boys (minus the one girl and the one lady (and the nuns in the beginning)). So to watch a bunch of boys (or men) dance and sing and tumble and belt made me sit there and think, yessiree, there’s a place in the world for us all. That might make no sense or all sense but who care, the show was fabulous.
