out at pho lang thang

This post is both hilarious and embarrassing.

Kenny and I have been talking for years about one day sitting down at Pho Lang Thang while at Findley Market. I cannot tell you how many Sundays we’ve been down there getting groceries and suggest to each other that we eat there, only to make another decision for one reason or another. Then finally a few weekends ago, while it was just us as Harry was weekending with my parents, we made a point to grab lunch.

Overall, it was what I expected of the Vietnamese spot known most famously for its pho. While I personally was not into a heaping bowl of beef stew that day, I went the banh mi sandwich route and got my good fill. I was sold on the bbq pork and while it was fattier than I could handle, I know that I’d like to go back and get the same sammie with chicken. The bites that were heavy on the carrot, cucumber, and house-made mayo of sorts were really on the right track for me.

Kenny pho sho went pho, and chose to include rare steak, brisket, and meatballs. Of all three, he said the rare steak was the best, but really spent his time singing the praises of bites which included it all. I did have a few bites, one of which was the broth alone, and that was the one that made me totally get it.

So I am glad we finally landed at one of the city’s staple spots, even if it was one that we passed by too many times to count. Moving forward, I don’t think we’ll be making the same mistake.

    My go to order is the beef pho with mushrooms. That way I get the rich broth without a bunch of added meat. :)
