out at metropole

Metropole menuBefore ONCE last week, my plus one (Annie) and I caught small bites and drinks at Metropole.

We wanted to stay right by the Aronoff for the beforehand pre-party, therefore this was the prefect spot. I have popped in once or twice before, but have never actually sat down and enjoyed myself. And I have to say, it was exactly what I was hoping for. We opted to share a couple of appetizers and Annie was a good sport when I suggested the Waygu Flank Steak Tartare. She was weary at first, as anyone would be when knowingly ordering raw beef for the first time, but it was by far the best thing we had. Extremely and utterly flavorful, with spices galore. That plus the toast and the crispy shallots and the grain mustard made for an absolutely delicious bite. We also ordered the Plancha Baja Shrimp, which hit the spot just as well. With quinoa and aioli, it was as tasty as it was beautiful. It was what we both immediately wanted, but it did come in second next to the steak. The steak was just that good.

Overall, Metropole was the perfect setting for the swanky happy hour that we wanted to engage in before catching a broadway show. The only thing we didn’t make time for was a tour of the 21c Museum Hotel gallery, so that’s for next time.
