I was having a conversation with my sister-in-laws the other day about vacations and we realized there are two kinds. One where you go somewhere new to explore, experience, and discover. The other is where you simply go somewhere warm to be with the ones you love. When it comes to the latter, I very much love to spend that time on Hilton Head Island.
I’ve gone to Hilton Head with Kenny’s family every year for the last five or so years but this year my whole side was able to get down there and hang for the week. We did everything that you should do on a perfectly stereotypical HHI family trip – sleep in, post up on the beach, spend happy hour in the pool, cook big dinners, ride bikes to get ice cream, repeat. It was perfect.
But it’s not a trip for me unless I can spend one night at The Quarterdeck in Harbour Town listening to my fav, Mike Kavanaugh. He’s been a staple there on Wednesdays for as long as I can remember so before even heading down, the whole family reserved that night as the one night to get cleaned up and get out of the house. Nothing makes me happier than parking for hours with good drinks, good company, seafood, and the most gorgeous view on the island. Plus this spot means so much to me. It’s where I worked for a few summers in college and were Kenny and I got engaged. So every time I’m down there, I make a point to spend a night in Harbor Town at The Quarterdeck. It’s my happy place.
